Each year Pensacola Habitat for Humanity travels abroad to support affordable housing alongside our partners in various parts of the world. We have two trips planned for 2017: one to Guatemala (March 4-12) and another to Malawi (August 5-13). As a Global Village volunteer you will:
- Work with members of the host community to build simple, decent, and affordable houses and other housing solutions.
- Advocate for improved housing and quality of life around the world.
- Create a true global village of love, community, homes and hope.
Global Village participants must be at least 16 years old at the time of the trip and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Participants must cover all of their own expenses including in-country incidentals and airfare. Program costs will cover transportation, lodging, meals, travel insurance, translations services, and building materials in country during the Habitat program. The team leaders will select their team from a pool of applicants after they have had the opportunity to get to know them through application, background screen, and interview. Selection is based on various criteria depending on the leader and destination and is not on a "first come, first serve" basis. However, if multiple qualified applicants are interested in the same trip, those that applied first will be selected. Priority will be giving to residents of Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, FL.
Work assignments normally involve strenuous physical activity, sometimes at high altitude and/or in extreme heat. Team members must be in good physical health and if you have any doubts you should consult your physician. Vaccinations recommended by the CDC are the responsibility of the traveler.
Participant safety and security is Habitat’s primary concern; however, international travel and working on a construction site always contain some degree of risk. Every participant is ultimately responsible for their own safety. For any international travel, you will need a current passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates. A visa may be required for some trips.
