VITAS Memory Bear volunteering
Your sewing talents could brighten the day of a grieving Hospice caregiver.

VITAS Healthcare of Fort Worth is looking for volunteers to sew Memory Bears. These cute cuddly critters are sewn from a favorite article of clothing provided by a hospice patient or by their family member. These memory bears provide a lovely reminder of the hospice patient and can be a valuable part of the bereavement process for our Hospice family members. Accuracy and timeliness are particularly valuable for the volunteer sewer. The sewer is asked to provide a sample project made from an article of clothing in order to assess skill. Please be aware that the seamstress provides the pattern and stuffing. Clothing items which make up the fabric are provided by the bereaved family. Volunteer needs your own sewing machine and the ability to turn this project promptly. Each bear takes 3 - 5 hours to complete. Heart shaped and square pillows are also offered. Unfortunately, no reimbursement is provided. Patterns are often on sale for minimal purchase.
