ORGANIZATION: Pacific Science Center

Pacific Science Center is home to living exhibits that feature plants. The Tropical Butterfly House contains plants that provide butterfly habitat and ethnobotanical products. The Pollinator Garden features Northwest native plants that support local pollinators. Civilized Seeds showcases domesticated plants that produce food, medicine, dye, and other products.

Though these exhibits may appear effortlessly natural, they are supported by an enthusiastic team of Horticulture Exhibit Volunteers. Volunteers care for plants, keep exhibits looking beautiful, record citizen science data, and share exhibit science content with museum guests.

Qualifications & Duties:

  • Excited about horticulture, pollination biology, entomology, ethnobotany, plant domestication, and related topics
  • Comfortable working with plants and soil in tropical or temperate climate conditions
  • Comfortable around animals found in living exhibits, including butterflies, bees, and birds
    • Interested in sharing science content with Pacific Science Center guests (a background in teaching is not required, training will be provided)
    • Assist with citizen science monitoring projects
