Help Communities In Schools of Central Texas (CIS) empower students to stay in school and achieve in life! CIS is looking for Arabic speaking volunteers to serve as mentors and tutors in Austin and the surrounding area during the 2016-2017 school year.
Mentors serve as a caring and consistent role model for one student, and help them engage in their educational future. You would meet with a student for one hour a week on their school campus. A CIS staff member would work with you to schedule a regular time and day of the week for you to volunteer.
Being a mentor is about meeting the student where they are and engaging their interests and needs. This could include spending time talking, playing games, working through challenges, exploring educational opportunities for the future, and more! Communities In Schools staff support mentors throughout the year and provide insights and resources to be a successful mentor.
Tutors assist students with homework and class assignments with the goal of helping the student build confidence in their abilities, get excited about learning, and create educational goals for their future. You would meet with a student for one hour a week on their school campus. A CIS staff member would work with you to schedule a regular time and day of the week for you to volunteer and, whether you are comfortable assisting in a variety of subjects or just one academic area, would do their best to create a successful student-tutor match.
Many school campuses are seeking Arabic speaking volunteers to support students! Apply to volunteer with Communities In Schools using the following link:
