A Credit Reviewer volunteer provides the Financial Check-up services. The Credit Reviewer will review taxpayer’s credit report with them and create a credit improvement plan for taxpayer. The Credit Reviewer will encourage taxpayer to save part of a refun taxpayer receives and will assist taxpayer in signing up for U.S. Treasury myRA if taxpayer desires.

Tasks:

  • Review credit reports with taxpayers, identifying any information on the report which may indicate taxpayer is a victim of fraud or identity theft

  • Identify negative factors on credit reports and collaborate with taxpayer to create a plan to mitigate these factors

  • Identify positive factors on credit report on which taxpayer can build and area where taxpayer can add positive factors to their credit report and collaborate with taxpayer to create a plan to implement these factors

  • Encourage taxpayers to save part of refunds

  • Provide information about U.S. Treasury myRA accounts, assist taxpayers in opening them if desired

  • Answer taxpayer questions

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

General knowledge of credit and its importance in the financial industry

Knowledge of customer needs and meeting the highest quality of customer satisfaction

Strong ability to exercise judgment, decision making and critical thinking

Training Required:

Credit Reviewer requires a minimum of 6 hours of training; receiving training on ethics, volunteer policies, credit counseling, and U.S. Treasury myRA sign-up.

Suggested volunteer commitment:

We encourage volunteers to sign up to volunteer at least 1-2 times a week as their schedule allows.

Established in 1965, Community Action Partnership of Lancaster and Saunders Counties Community Action empowers people living in poverty to reach economic stability. We offer 16 unique programs to ensure that everyone, regardless of their economic situation, has the opportunity to thrive.

Last year, Community Action served 17,805 individuals and families. Our high-quality early childhood education programs ensure that our community's most vulnerable children are ready for kindergarten, and more likely to graduate from high school. Families learn and save in our matched savings program as they work to purchase their first home, launch or expand a business, or continue their education. At Community Action, individuals build their skills in orer to acheive meaningful employment. We offer the critical next steps in establishing and maintaining long-term economic stability.

Our participants are remarkable people. They take responsibility for making lasting changes in their lives by making use of their own unique strengths. As a result, they are better able to manage their living situations, and make positive steps toward economic stability.
