Description : LifeLong Medical Care is a non-profit community health center that provides health and social services for individuals with limited income, as well as those who face significant barriers to attaining better health, with a positive, caring environment. Our organization is comprised of nine primary care medical clinics, a dental clinic, an adult day health center, three on-site school clinics, a pediatric center, and a supportive housing program. Our core mission is to provide high-quality health and social services to underserved people of all ages; to create models of care for the elderly, people with disabilities, and families; and to advocate for continuous improvements in the health of our communities.

LifeLong Ashby Health Center serves primarily an adult population, and includes primary care, behavioral health, OB/GYN, Pediatrics, HIV Access Program, as well as many patient education and support services.

At LAHC, we offer acupuncture to our patients through two clinics: a drop-in community clinic with detox focus and an integrative acupuncture clinic. Our program integrates acupuncture with primary care and behavioral health, offering coordinated care with an acupuncturist and an MD and/or a Nurse Practitioner. Patients are commonly referred to our services for chronic pain, anxiety, stress, insomnia, autoimmune disorders, cancer and many other health conditions.

Responsibilities: As an acupuncture clinic coordinator volunteer, you would help oversee the clinic flow of the weekly acupuncture clinic at Lifelong Ashby Health Center. We provide acupuncture treatment to patients who have been referred to us by providers and staff. As coordinator, you will be responsible for scheduling patients, scanning and transcribing chart notes into the Electronic Health Records system, and performing other administrative/office duties.

After volunteering with us for approximately 2 months, you will have the opportunity to become more involved in direct patient care, such as:

(a) medical scribe: be present during the entire acupuncture treatment, to help acupuncture interns and other providers record history of present illness notes and treatment notes

(b) interview patients before their acupuncture treatment and record your notes into the Electronic Health Records system

(c) measure manual blood pressures, temperature, weight, and pulse under supervision

(d) assist patients with self-care education and learn more about other services we offer.

Our clinics run on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. You must be available on Mondays 8:30am-12:30pm, Tuesdays 8:30am-12:30pm, Wednesdays 9am-12pm AND/OR Thursdays 8:30am-12:30pm.

We ask that you commit to volunteering weekly for at least 6 months. No previous experience is necessary, but experience volunteering in any field is preferred. You will be trained by one of our current acupuncture coordinators.

We understand that your schedule may not be finalized at this time, but if you are interested in this position, please send an email to the clinic supervisor, Bonney Lynch, at blynch@lifelongmedical.org and to the lead volunteer coordinator Elle Fukui at elle@berkeley.edu . Include a cover letter (with your specific availability, your current educational status, and your future career goals), as well as a one-page resume.

Interviews will be held at Lifelong Ashby Health Center on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 22, 2016

10:30am-12pm

If you are in need of volunteer hours to fulfill a specific requirement, we would be happy to fill out the necessary paperwork for you. We look forward to hearing from you.
