Be the catalyst needed for nonprofits working with children and families to more effectively recruit, engage and retain quality volunteers. United Way’s Volunteer Manager Corps (VMC) program, developed in partnership with 501 Commons, is recruiting for volunteers and interns to work 10 hours/ week from February through May. The volunteers help the selected agencies develop more effective volunteer management systems and policies, while gaining their own nonprofit management experience.

Agencies currently being considered include Southwest Youth and Family Services, which offers counseling, a high school re-entry program, and family support; Educurious, an education system that engages real-world experts; Ryther which specializes in teen and child mental health and addiction, the Bureau of Fearless Ideas, which tutors writing and communication and Sea Mar Community Health Centers, which offer comprehensive health care.

VMC members receive:

  • training and support
  • a boost to their resume
  • internship credit if arranged by the VMC member
  • a $400 United Way of King County service award, depending on hours
