ORGANIZATION: Project CARE

Volunteer Tutor will conduct Reading and Writing Workshop for 5-10 adult secondary education students who are working towards their High School Equivalency Certificate and/or transitioning into Post-Secondary and Career and Technical Education programs. Pre-service training and materials will be provided.

Qualifications:

    • Be at least 18 years old

    • Have a high school diploma or HSEC

    • Be able to volunteer 2 hours a week for 3 months

    • Be willing to complete 15 hours of initial training

    • Be sensitive to the needs of the local community

Description

Project CARE (Community Adult Reading Experience) is Morton College’s volunteer adult literacy program. We use trained literacy tutors to teach adult students seeking assistance with reading and writing, and/or adults who are learning English as a Second Language. Tutoring services are FREE and are available to all eligible students. Project CARE was founded in 1986 and is grant funded by the Illinois Secretary of State.
We serve the communities of Berwyn, Cicero, Stickney, Lyons, Forest View, McCook, and the surrounding areas, including Chicago.
