SouthernCare

The services you will give as a Hospice volunteer will profoundly improve the quality of our patient's lives. Friendly visits enable families to keep their loved ones at home, around the people they love, and the things they love. Assisting with errands helps a tired family cope with their many challenges and allows them time with their loved one. Simply holding a patient's hand can ease their mind and comfort their spirit.

Volunteering takes no advanced medical training or great commitment. It can be as simple as reading to, or spending time with a patient a few hours a week. It is small deeds of kindness that so profoundly enhance the lives of our patients and those who love them.

There are many kinds of Hospice volunteers. Our volunteers include individuals, families, businesses, youth and school groups, civic organizations and churches. Volunteer candidates go through interview and screening processes to ensure the safety of our patients and their families. All hospice volunteers are given assignments that best suit their time, skills and interests.

Our volunteers are thoroughly trained and supported in the skills they need for the volunteer role. Training includes scheduled sessions, individual training and on-site training for groups and organizations

Mission Statement

We see each individual as more than a patient. Our skilled professionals and volunteers design an all-encompassing program, customized to each patient that addresses not only the physical needs but also the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient and family. Counseling and education about disease management and the dying process are provided to the family unit in conjunction with patient care. Our hospice philosophy includes an individualized course of treatment based on the patient’s wishes, the family’s needs and the complex array of medical, emotional and social issues which accompany a terminal diagnosis. Our service offerings include access to a network of community resources specifically arranged to provide comfort, reduce anxiety and allow quality time to be spent with the loved one.

Description

Our goal is to enrich the quality of life as life's journey nears its completion. Through supportive, loving, comfort care we offer patients and their families comfort for body, mind and spirit.

We are committed to being a world class organization that provides the highest quality care to our patients and their families.
