ServiceWorks is unique in that it is a volunteer-driven program that works towards teaching Service Scholars (youth), ages 16-24, transferable college and workplace skills that they gain through the planning and implementation of community service projects. This program is led by VISTA AmeriCorps members that have dedicated a year of service to implementing the ServiceWorks program at YPI. A critical component of the program is bringing in community volunteers to help teach these skills to the youth enrolled in the program. YPI is seeking volunteer Skill Trainers that are motivated adults who possess strong teaching and facilitation skills in one or more of the following areas: leadership, networking, project planning, diversity, professionalism, communication, problem solving and asset mapping. Volunteer trainers will facilitate 1-5 workshops from an established ServiceWorks curriculum. Volunteer trainers typically dedicate 1-3 hours for preparation, 1-2 hours in direct facilitation to youth. Training in the curriculum and ongoing support are provided to volunteer Skill Trainers by YPI VISTA members.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Receive training by VISTA member(s) on ServiceWorks curriculum, overview of program and general expectations
Work closely with VISTA member to plan for facilitation of specific topics
Prepare material prior to workshop as needed and with direction of VISTA member
