Donations Triage Interns are masters of the Receiving & Sorting areas of Free Geek and have a strong understanding of the Oregon e-Cycles Program. As a Donations Triage Intern, you’ll train to identify any type of technology that is donated to Free Geek, understand its place in the the recycling flow, and effectively organize donated tech to be processed. Additionally, Donations Triage Interns are responsible for training and supervising the Sorting volunteers.

Responsibilities- Work alongside Free Geek staff to coordinate volunteers and the flow of material donations
- Train and supervise volunteers in Free Geek’s mission: identifying reusable materials in donations
- Develop a thorough understanding of data security, hardware specifications, and Free Geek Production and Sales area needs
- Test computer speakers
- Support Free Geek staff in triaging incoming hardware donations as needed
- Support Receiving and Sorting Staff in following Data Security policies
- Support Receiving Staff in triaging incoming hardware donations as needed
- Supplement flow of materials throughout the building with communication from other Free Geek staff
- Knack for sorting and organizing
- Ability to quickly identify a wide variety of basic electronics
- Ability to work well with an ever-changing and diverse volunteer base
- Ability to prioritize and and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to comfortably lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods of time
- Enthusiasm for Free Geek’s mission of Reuse & Responsible Recycling

Description
At Free Geek, volunteers may earn a free desktop PC by volunteer 24 hours in any of our programs.
In Recycling, volunteers may:
-sort incoming donated hardware
-disassemble computers and other electronic equipment
-transport equipment from receiving to testing areas
In Refurb, volunteers will:
-learn about internal computer components
-evaluate, quality check, and refurbish PCs and laptops
-may advance to iMacs and other hardware testing
In Internships, volunteers gain:
-100+ hours of training and experience in advanced reuse, recycling, or non-profit administration activities
-leadership skill building
-professional references and letters of recommendation (not usually available for non-intern volunteers)
