About

Learn how to safely and securely sanitize data-bearing devices! As a Data Security Intern, you will be tasked with making sure that no one’s personal data falls into the wrong hands. You’ll need a keen eye to spot all different kinds of data-bearing components in order to isolate them. The Data Security internship is great for people who love a good puzzle, and is especially useful for applicants hoping to enter career fields like Network Security.

Responsibilities
  • Learning Free Geek’s data security procedures
  • Sanitizing data-bearing devices
  • Keeping the Secure Data Area clean and in-line with safety guidelines
  • Keeping abreast of relevant data security issues
  • Researching data-bearing devices/sanitation procedures
  • Learning Hardware Specifications
  • Following flowcharts to determine the fate of a sanitized data-bearing device
  • Aiding Receiving staff in unloading large data bearing donations, when necessary
Desired Qualifications
  • Ability to be on your feet for the entirety of a shift (approx. 4 hours)
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Ability to work comfortably and efficiently in a fairly small space with other people
  • Aptitude for learning detailed, complex tasks and protocols through the use of flowcharts and doing online research when required
  • Desire to understand data security concerns
  • Aptitude for problem solving
