The Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM), a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, seeks a qualified Treasurer to join its volunteer Board.
The MIFM connects Washington State producers with community residents during the June - October Market season, serving an average of 2500 visitors each Sunday. In addition to offering a wide variety of local food products, the Market provides a safe, convenient gathering place for all ages, featuring weekly Children’s Table educational programs, music performances, and freshly prepared dishes.
Market Board members are typically residents of Mercer Island or adjacent communities who have a passion for healthy food, community service, and the ability to regularly contribute support to Market strategy and operations throughout the calendar year.
The Treasurer position will be responsible for overseeing finance, accounting, tax and budgeting activities throughout the year, including financial and management reporting requirements. He/she should be an experienced professional (CPA preferred) who ideally will have prior experience working with non-profit organizations, managing third party resources as required. The Treasurer will chair the MIFM Finance Committee and oversee the annual budget cycle during the 1 st calendar quarter.
The MIFM Board of Directors typically meets the third Tuesday of each month from 6-8 pm in downtown Mercer Island. MIFM Board Committees meet occasionally throughout the year and use email for interim communications. The Treasurer should be available to contribute at least four or more hours per month including Board and Committee meetings, and to participate occasionally as a day of market volunteer during the Market season.
Prior non-profit Board experience is helpful, but not required. A passion for healthy food is welcome!
