Small Angels Rescue, Inc.

Do you have a passion for animal welfare and consider yourself an expert in caring for hamsters?

Since its inception in October 2003, Small Angels Rescue, Inc. has saved over 4,000 guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and gerbils from euthanasia, abuse, and abandonment. We are a young, growing organization that serves an area of desperate need in the community. We are an all-volunteer, registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. To help us in our mission, we are seeking an Animal Coordinator / At-Large Board Member to head-up the team that is responsible for rescuing and re-homing hamsters.

The Animal Coordinator will oversee all activities related to the hamsters under their care, managing the Team Leaders (if applicable) and/or foster homes. This role includes handling intakes and adoptions, arranging veterinary care, and caring for animals that are under temporary intake quarantine before placement in foster homes. Prior experience with care of hamsters is necessary. As an At-Large Board Member, you will participate in monthly Board Meetings. These are held bi-monthly in-person in Frederick, Maryland, and bi-monthly via teleconference/Zoom.

You will work closely with the other Animal Coordinators caring for different species and will be able to rely on other members of this close-knit team for support and information.

If you are ready to help make a tangible difference in the lives of these little animals, please send an email to We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Small Angels works primarily with kill or open admission shelters where the animals could be euthanized. We use a network of foster homes to care for the animals until they find their adoptive homes.
