If this sounds like you, then an internship in the Alchemist Community Development Corporation Farmers’ Market Program could be a great fit!

Internship Description:

As a Farmers’ Market CalFresh Booth Leader and Outreach Assistant you will manage the CalFresh Booth at the Laguna Gateway Farmers’ Market (Laguna & Big Horn in Elk Grove) and conduct outreach to the community regarding the program. This is a three-month internship, beginning in November, with the opportunity for an extension. This internship is unpaid, but we will work with you to receive school credit. The intern will report to the Farmers’ Market Program Coordinator.


  • Managing CalFresh Booth:
    • Process transactions at the farmers’ market booth
    • Educate CalFresh users and farmers on the program
    • Train new volunteers and manage experienced volunteers
    • Conduct customer surveys at the market
    • Complete weekly and monthly programmatic record-keeping
    • Set-up and take down booth
  • Outreach Assistance:
    • Work with the Farmers’ Market Program Coordinator to identify outreach targets and develop outreach plan
    • Deliver outreach materials to a minimum of 10 locations per month
    • Represent Alchemist CDC at community events


  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Excel
  • Ability to work independently
  • Comfortable speaking with public
  • Availability on Sundays and at least one weekday
  • Commitment of at least 10 hours per week
  • Ability to store and transfer farmers’ market booth equipment including a plastic bin, canopy tent, table, and two chairs
  • Reliable transportation
  • Familiarity with CalFresh/EBT/Food Stamps a plus
  • Spanish language a plus
  • Experience with Dropbox a plus
