ORGANIZATION: Professional Opportunities Program for Students, Inc

Needed Professional volunteers skilled in the art of writing - willing to critique student portfolios. Portfolios consist of a students' resume, references, cover letters and essay. This is a skill building opportunity for our students. You help them learn how to prepare a written document that can be used for schorlarship and college entrance applications and job applications. HR experience is welcomed but not required.

Most of the work will be done online and by phone. If willing, volunteers may also choose to attend a POPS monthly workshop to work individually or with a group of students reviewing, suggesting and assisting the students in how to write a great essay and resume.

Volunteers may be assigned between 1-5 students at a time.

POPS goal is To provide at risk high school students with the knowledge, experience and support necessary to complete high school, pursue a post-secondary experience and find gainful employment.

We have 3 main Objectives:

1. To engage students in workshops and small group mentoring that increases their developmental assets, positive identity and self-confidence. This results in positive academic attainment, increased GPA and on time grade promotion and access to a post-secondary educational experience.

2. To provide professional readiness skills and paid summer internship opportunities that prepare students to perform well in professional settings and compete successfully in a global economy.

3. To provide college readiness workshops and access to college tours that empower students to select, apply and attend post-secondary institutions, best suited to their academic capabilities and financial means.

We do this by offering relevant curriculum workshops and experiences designed to have students gain specific knowledge, skill sets, attitudes, behaviors and values.
