The Organization:
The Columbia Slough Watershed Council is a diverse group of neighbors, property owners, businesses, environmental groups, recreation advocates, and government agencies who work to restore and enhance the 60 miles of waterways, wetlands, and slow moving channels known as the Columbia Slough. For over ten years, the Council has offered environmental education activities, workshops, paddling events, and restoration opportunities to the diverse populations of Portland, Gresham, and Fairview. The Council recognizes that human and ecological diversity is a fundamental strength of our community and is committed to engaging participants, volunteers, staff, partners, and council members who live, work, and play in the watershed.

Position Summary
The Web Development Volunteer will work closely with the Outreach and Events Director on maintaining and expanding the Council’s website (built on ExpressionEngine 3.4). They will assist Council staff in taking the new version of the website through to launch by incorporating feedback and running final testing, quality assurance, incorporating Spanish and other language material, and making improvements to the desktop/mobile user experience. This is a perfect position for students pursuing a career in web development and/or self-taught individuals seeking portfolio building opportunities!
Qualifications
Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices
Create website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS practices
Possess basic familiarity with technology stack for ExpressionEngine 3.4 (Apache, PHP, and MySQL)
Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs
Stay current on emerging technologies/industry trends that are relevant to Council website
Cooperate with Outreach and Events Director and Council staff to match visual design intent
Compensation
The contractor will assist with technical matters of the Council’s site on a voluntary basis.
