Greetings!
It's that time of year again and as always, there are plenty opportunities for volunteers.
As in the past, we would like to extend to you the opportunity to share in this internationally-recognized destination event that celebrates the life and works of Zora Neale Hurston and the heritage and culture of people of African ancestry. Eatonville will host hundreds of thousands of visitors during the nine days of the festival and we would like to partner with you and your organization to assist us in providing quality volunteers who will help roll out the welcome mat and keep the joyous spirit of the festival vibrant and alive.
The 28th Annual Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities begins on Friday, January 20, 2017 thru Sunday, January 29, 2017 and will be held predominately in Eatonville, FL with supporting venues for festival events throughout Orlando.
As the Volunteers' Coordinator, I want to express how much I need your support. It is because of you that for the past 26 years this festival has been a success.
I thank you in advance for your commitment to service and I look forward to working with each and everyone of you as we continue to make the festival a great success.
P.S. for volunteer meeting dates please contact or send email.
Warmest Regards,
Kerry Charles

Mission Statement
The Association to Preserve the Eatonville Community, Inc. (P.E.C.) is a non-profit/tax-exempt historic preservation organization whose mission is to enhance the resources of Eatonville, Florida, "the oldest incorporated African American municipality in the United States" and the hometown of writer, folklorist, and anthropologist Zora Neale Hurston; to educate the public about Eatonville’s historic and cultural significance; and to use the community’s heritage and cultural vibrancy for its economic development.
Description
P.E.C. is "hitting the re-set button" on how we fulfill our mission. Our goal remains to preserve Eatonville's precious heritage; to assist the community's return to the educational excellence it once enjoyed, thereby ensuring its ability to survive as a "healthy" community; and to utilize its heritage and cultural resources to benefit its economic growth.
From our inception, we developed programs based on Pride of Heritage; Educational Excellence; and Cultural Arts. With funding from Orange County Citizens' Commission for Children (CCC), PEC created a high-touch, dropout prevention program called a Summer Performing Arts Workshop (SPAW). Its goals: improve students' self-esteem; improve their work ethic; and show them the relationship between hard work and success. For 20 years, SPAW was successful.CAUSE AREAS
