The MSC Exhibits Team often needs help organizing the exhibits shop or finishing projects. There are two opportunities to assist the Team on an on-going, as needed basis. If you feel comfortable working in a shop environment and enjoy working with your hands the Exhibits Team would love your assistance. This is also a fantastic opportunity for volunteers looking to gain basic experience in museum exhibits fabrication.
Please see below for further information regarding the two opportunities:
Fabrication Assistants: Are you interested in helping create exhibits, but don’t have significant fabrication experience? You can still help us out by taking the pieces we create and putting the finishing touches on them .
Duties: Sanding, painting, edge-routing, and clear-coating.
Shop Assistants : In the process of maintaining and making new exhibits, we make a lot of sawdust! Periodically, we could use some extra hands cleaning and organizing. This volunteer opportunity is suitable for high school volunteers and older. This opportunity is also suitable for groups of volunteers looking for a one-day project.
Required Skills:
Attention to detail
Willingness to adhere to safety rules
Ability to move around the shop, which often has extension cords, air hoses, dust and exhibit pieces on the ground, in the air, and everywhere
Training: Shop orientation and project guidelines provided by Exhibit Fabrication
Schedule: Exhibits Assistants volunteer opportunities are presented on an on going, as needed basis. Opportunities to volunteer will be offered in advance.

Mission Statement
We are the Maryland Science Center. We inspire. We empower. We engage. Let's science.
Description
The Maryland Academy of Sciences is Maryland's oldest scientific institution and one of the oldest such institutions in the entire nation. At its inception in 1797, the Academy was an amateur scientific society - members met to discuss papers on astronomy, botany, zoology, and other subjects then known as the "natural sciences."
As the Academy continued its work through the 1800s and 1900s, the group searched for a permanent location to establish a space dedicated to interactive, hands-on learning. The vision became a reality with the opening of the Academy's Maryland Science Center in 1976.
Today, and for more than 40 years, the Maryland Academy of Sciences, through its programs and exhibits at the Maryland Science Center, has demonstrated a commitment to emphasize the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). No other institution in the state reaches more teachers and students through onsite and outreach programming.
The Maryland Science Center invites you to join our Volunteer Program and celebrate science!
