ORGANIZATION: Junior Achievement of Chicago

Junior Achievement is an educational nonprofit that brings career readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy programming into classrooms from kindergarten through high school. Our programs empower students to own their economic success!

There is an opportunity to teach young women about their Personal Finances. This program focuses on earning money; spending money wisely through budgeting; saving and investing money; using credit cautiously; and protecting one's personal finances.

With your support students will be able to recognize the fundamental elements of smart personal finances. They also will be able to apply those elements to a personal financial plan that allows them to set specific goals for their lifelong financial needs and desired quality of life.

This volunteer role does NOT require previous teaching experience or prior research! Each kit comes equipped with a detailed volunteer guidebook and materials for each session. All of the program materials are provided by Junior Achievement - free of charge - and will be overviewed during a brief 30 minute training session prior to teaching.

This is a perfect opportunity to serve as a role model for youth and help inspire them to reach their goals! Help make a meaningful impact in the lives of our future leaders!

Please contact Cynthia Saucedo at csaucedo@jachicago.org if you are interested in this opportunity.

Mission Statement

To inspire and prepare young people to succeed in the global economy.

Description

Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices. In partnership with businesses and educators, JA brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential.

Our corporate and community volunteers deliver relevant, hands-on experiences that give students from kindergarten through high school knowledge and skills in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. JA programs empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world - enhancing the relevance of their classroom learning and increasing their understanding of the value of staying in school.

Throughout JA's sequential and integrated kindergarten through high school programs, students think critically and solve complex problems. Through our business, financial, and entrepreneurial educational programs, we prepare students to:

  • Proactively manage their finances;
  • Become entrepreneurs; and
  • Develop skills that will be recognized and valued in a global workforce.

During the 2017-2018 school year, JA of Chicago successfully reached 600,222 students of all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and physical capabilities, including at-risk youth in twelve Chicago-area and northwestern Indiana counties.
