Readers Needed to Grade Travel Scholarships

ORGANIZATION: Hostelling International Los Angeles -Santa Monica

HI LA Travel Scholarship Committee Members will provide oversight for and manage the HI USA travel scholarship program in their local community. Committee members will be collectively tasked with developing their local program with the support of HI USA staff and resources.

Starting in January 2018, we will begin recruitment for our international travel scholarship called Explore the World. This scholarship is for aspiring global travelers who want to give back while they experience another culture. Scholarship recipients will receive $2,000 to support a trip that includes an educational or service component.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training on how to review and grade scholarship applications
  • Participate in the selection of local travel scholarship recipients using our standard grading system
  • Work with HI USA staff member

Desired skills, qualifications:

  • Familiarity with HI USA Mission
  • Desire to help others experience travel
  • Travel experience a plus

Scholarship Schedule:

  • Mid Jan -Mid-March: Explore the World promotion and application live
  • Late-March early April: Grade Explore the World applications and select recipients

Time Commitment:

  • 1 hour for training via conference call / webinar
  • In general, approximately 5-10 hours for grading on your own
