Lift Communities. Volunteer. The Center for Economic Progress (CEP) provides volunteers with the chance to work one-on-one with working families to make tax time an opportunity to get ahead.
No experience is necessary! All training is provided; online training is available now and classroom training takes place in January. Volunteers are asked to commit to just one shift per week between January and April.
Volunteer positions available:
Tax Preparer: Work with clients to file federal and state tax returns and provide counseling on tax credits and forms.
Tax Site Specialist: Perform essential non-tax-preparation activities, including client intake, translating and sorting tax returns.
Savings Coach: Help clients develop and further understand their financial goals, barriers to saving, and ways to effectively manage their money. (Volunteer Savings Coaches currently work at the following sites: Auburn Gresham, Bronzeville, Loop, Uptown, Aurora, Chicago Heights, Elgin)

During the 2016 tax season, more than 690 CEP volunteers helped over 18,000 families stand on their own. Now it's your turn to help get your city on its feet.
Be part of a mission that returned over $28 million to hard working Illinois families last year!
