Welcome to our ESL Practice Program at The English Language Center!

The ESL Practice Program needs volunteers to assist our adult English language students with small group conversation practice or one-on-one writing tutoring

Evening Conversation Groups:

  • Thursdays, April 19 - June 7
  • 5:45PM to 6:45PM
  • 1 hour per week (8 weeks)

Evening Writing Partners:

  • Wednesdays & Thursdays, April 25 - June 7
  • 5:45PM to 6:45PM
  • 1 hour per week (7 weeks)

Afternoon Conversation Groups:

  • Tuesdays & Thursdays, April 17 - June 7
  • 1:00PM to 2:00PM

Afternoon Writing Partners:

  • Mondays & Wednesdays, April 18 - June 6
  • 1:00PM to 2:00PM

The aim of Conversation Groups is to further our students' speaking and listening skills. Many of our students live with family or friends and don't get to practice these skills outside of class. Writing Partners, on the other hand, help individual students with homework from their writing and grammar classes as well as help students improve their overall writing skills. Writing tutors should be able to assist students with English grammar and punctuation, forming paragraphs, brainstorming for ideas, organizing their writing, and using tools like the dictionary and thesaurus.

Volunteers are asked to commit only one hour per week, though we are happy to have you more often if you like. Our students are very motivated and fun to work with, and they are very appreciative of any help you can give.
