1 in 10 people living in the Twin Cities metro area do not know where their next meal is coming from. The Neighbors’ emergency food shelf serves about 30 families per day. Volunteers assist families as they pick out food from the shelves.

Key activities

  • Help people to pick out food from the shelves according to guidelines
  • Check and label expiration dates of donated food
  • Sort food donations and stock shelves by food type
  • Keep sorting and storage areas organized and clean


  • Must be 18 years old
  • Able to treat everyone and every situation in a friendly manner
  • Able to lift bags of food and be active for several hours at a time
  • Spanish language skills helpful, but not necessary

Shifts Available

  • Monday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Tuesday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Friday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
  • Thursday mornings, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
