About

Work with individual students or with a small group of students who need extra support during class. This is a multi-level ESOL class, most students are Spanish speaking. All the students are employees at Stavis Seafoods and are learning English at work.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00-5:00pm. Volunteers are needed for one or both days per week.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Related experience is welcome, but training will be provided.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Interest in working with people of various linguistic, cultural, religious, ethnic and national backgrounds.
  • Commitment to learning techniques for providing effective services to help immigrants learn English.

Program/Department Overview:

JVS works with employers to develop and customize training and education services for their employees at their location. Based on the employers’ business and workforce development goals, JVS will provide: English language classes (for non-native speakers), adult basic education, pre-college classes, customer service training, effective communication classes, supervisory training, computer classes, and medical terminology classes. Employer partners include CVS, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Legal Sea Foods, Hebrew Senior Life, Partners Healthcare, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and many more.
