Classes are offered: Tuesday & Thursday, 3:00-5:00pm EST. We ask volunteers to volunteer once a week.
JVS works with employers to develop and customize training and education services for their employees at their location. Based on the employers’ business and workforce development goals, JVS will provide: English language classes (for non-native speakers), adult basic education, pre-college classes, customer service training, effective communication classes, supervisory training, computer classes, and medical terminology classes. Employer partners include CVS, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Legal Sea Foods, Hebrew Senior Life, Partners Healthcare, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, and many more.
The volunteer will work with an individual in a breakout room during the lesson. All materials will be provided by the instructor. The class is an intermediate English class. It is a vocational English class for immigrant employees of seafoods companies, including Polka Dog and Wulf’s Fish. The classes focus on improving English communication and basic reading and writing skills to help them at work.
- Set learning goals with the client (instructor with provide guidance)
- Use textbook provided to create and deliver lessons via Zoom.
- Check in monthly with program manager to provide updates and receive guidance on curriculum.
- Send attendance to program manager weekly.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Related experience is welcome, but training will be provided.
- Interest in working with people of various linguistic, cultural, religious, ethnic, and national backgrounds.
- Comfortable delivering lessons via Zoom, either on a cell phone or computer.
