Homes First is a CHDO organization.

A "CHDO" (pronounced "CHO-DOE") is a Community-Based Housing Development Organization-a special status which the government grants to nonprofit community organizations engaged in housing development activities that benefit low and moderate income families. To be a CHDO, 1/3 of the members of our board of directors must be low income or represent a low income neighborhood association.

There are several significant benefits of becoming a CHDO, including access to government funding and property tax exemptions, which help us keep our rents low.

About Homes First

Location:

5203 Lacey Blvd SE, Ste.A, Lacey, WA 98503, US

Mission Statement

Homes First creates and maintain safe, healthy, and affordable rental homes for those who need them most.

Description

Homes First, a stand-alone 501C(3) nonprofit, works to develop, own and manage affordable housing for lower income Thurston County residents unable to compete in today’s housing market. It seeks to encourage and use broad public and private participation and resources to reach its goal.

Formed in April 1990, Homes First grew out of a task force concerned about the homeless, whose members joined with other community residents concerned about the problem of affordable housing. Homes First is now working to increase the supply of affordable housing for community members in need.

Since 1990, Homes First has been acquiring, renovating, and preserving affordable rental housing for low income families, individuals, and people with special needs. Currently we own and manage 110 rental units. Income from rents goes to maintain the housing, provide staff oversight, and help fund future affordable housing projects.
