Do you like to have fun, meet new people, and help others? Become a volunteer at SA Youth and make a difference!
Volunteers work with school age youth in small groups throughout the week. Our children arrive at our centers after school. They have a snack and get started on their homework before activities begin. A volunteer is asked to be at the center when the kids arrive from school, to quickly help them with their homework and assist with activities. Volunteers can request to work with a certain age group. Volunteers are asked to work with the same group(s) of students at least once a week.
Volunteer opportunities include:
1. Homework assistant
2. Computer lab tutor
3. Coach
4. Art instructor
5. Mentors for our YouthBuild Program
Role of our volunteers:
· Providing academic help and tutoring
· Providing career exploration assistance
· Providing emotional support
· Providing social experiences
In YouthBuild, our students are here to get their GED. Most of them don't have anyone to encourage them and keep them on the right track so that’s where YOU come in. Being a YouthBuild mentor is a deeply rewarding experience. You will provide support at a critical point in a young person’s life. YouthBuild students are doing great work in the classroom, training for the jobs of the future, and learning how to be quality citizens and community leaders. But the missing ingredient in all this might be your support, wisdom, and caring soul.
A Mentor will commit to spending a minimum of 4 hours each month with their youth. Activities will be scheduled Monthly by the Volunteer Coordinator.

About SA Youth
Location:
PO Box 7844, San Antonio, TX 78207, US
Mission Statement
To develop the character, strengths, talents and skills of San Antonio's high-risk urban youth through fun, safe experiences, positive learning environments, and holistic programs that inspire each individual to fulfill their potential personally and in the community.
Description
SA Youth's prime focus is helping young people achieve academic success, develop their character, and promote healthy lifestyles. We operate several out-of-school sites for school-age youth and one alternate campus and training center for young adults ages 16-24 who have left the traditional school system. SA Youth's OST program takes place after school and during the summer for youth between the ages of 5 and 13. Our site locations operate four to five hours during the school year and up to ten hours over the summer and select school holidays. SA Youth provides a safe place, caring adults, and positive youth development programs during the out-of-school time hours when juvenile delinquency and other risky behaviors can occur. Our YouthBuild program provides unemployed high school dropouts, ages 16-24, a second chance to recover a high school diploma or GED while learning marketable skills at the same time. Members are directed through structured online and class-based curriculum. At SA Youth, we create a safe environment where young adults are free to learn; where everyone is valued, guided, and taught leadership qualities, which directly enhances their growth in self-confidence.
