College and Career Goal Arizona at Washington HS

The Educational Opportunity Center in Yuma is in need of volunteers to help out at their Arizona College Application Campaign (AzCAC) workshop. The Arizona College Application Campaign holds workshops at high schools around the state during application season, bringing together high school seniors with staff and volunteers who help them through an important milestone of their lives, the college application process.

AzCAC is a part of the American College Application Campaign, which helped students all over the nation to file over 500,000 applications in 2015.

Benefits of this opportunity include fostering a college-going community, supporting students who may be the first in their family to attend college, furthering the education and lifetime goals of young people, contributing to the long - term economic outcomes of Arizona, and networking with a group of other committed volunteers and education professionals.

Mission Statement

The Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE) is dedicated to expanding access and increasing success in postsecondary education for Arizonans. With the help of our partners and volunteers like you, we are helping to boost college attainment in our communities, with a special focus on those with fewer resources for learning about the application process.

Description

ACPE is a state agency leading the way toward better outcomes for Arizona's students. The Commission leads two programs helping students and families enroll and succed in college. These two programs are the College Application Campaign and College Goal FAF$A, which hold college application and FAFSA completion workshops throughout the state in the months leading up to priority deadlines for financial aid and college admissions. These events are in need of volunteers to ensure all students get the help they need.

These workshop programs are part of College and Career Goal Arizona, a state initiative partnering with communities, schools, and families to increase the number of students who make applications to a postsecondary institution and receive student financial aid. During the 2015-2016 school year, 46 high schools took part in the Arizona College Application Campaign, with 14,333 seniors filing over 8,000 applications to college. The same year, 300 plus volunteers helped more than 2,700 families and students to complete the FAFSA at College Goal FAF$A events.

The Commission also administers the Arizona 529 Family College Savings Plan, which provides families and students the opportunity to save for educational expenses and receive a tax deduction to offset costs.
