ORGANIZATION: The Health Trust

Friends from Meals on Wheels is a new friendly visitor program for seniors receiving Meals on Wheels in Santa Clara County.

We are in need of a Cantonese speaking volunteer to make weekly friendly phone calls to seniors that are homebound and lonely. The phone calls are conversational, and involve asking the senior how they're doing, etc.

We ask for a commitment of about 1 hour/week for 4-6 months.

The completion of a volunteer application and a brief training are required.

If interested, please reply to this post. Or, email Claire Bleymaier, Program Coordinator at: Claireb@healthtrust.org. Phone: 408-961-9873.

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To build health equity in the Silicon Valley.

Description

Our Vision:

The Health Trust believes every Silicon Valley resident should have the opportunity to live a healthy life.

How:

We at The Health Trust believe that if Silicon Valley is a community where innovation is changing the world, then it also can be a community where innovation changes the lives of everyone - especially our most vulnerable residents - for the better.

As we strive to make our vision reality, we reflect the values of Silicon Valley. When we tackle a problem, we take the broad view. We rely on expertise, partnerships and best practices to generate solutions that will have the greatest impact on those we serve. We invest in projects that are sustainable, show measurable results and provide the greatest return on investment for the community.

With a strong emphasis on prevention, we focus our work through three initiatives: Healthy Living, Healthy Aging and Healthy Communities. Through direct services, we are helping one person at a time. And through policy advocacy and grantmaking, we are changing the local environment to promote healthy eating, healthy aging and healthy living.
