Hmong Table Host: Caregiving in the Hmong Community

ORGANIZATION: Amherst H. Wilder Foundation

On December 7, Wilder Foundation is hosting a dinner at the Community Center for Aging in St. Paul. T he purpose for the gathering is to discuss caregiving in the Hmong community. The concept of "caregiving" varies by cultural community, and to be effective, caregiving support needs to be culturally-specific and developed through authentic community engagement.

Wilder Volunteer Services would like to request your help with this event. We are looking for volunteers to serve as a table host for the evening? Each host will be provided with 6 invitations they can distribute to their family members or friends who are interested in participating in this community discussion. Hosts will be asked to facilitate these informal table discussions and communicate back to us a summary of his/her table’s discussion.

Qualifications

  • Able to speak Hmong, Bicultural Hmong

  • Understand spoken Hmong

  • Good listener/good communicator

  • Respectful, professional, and courteous

  • 18 years of age or older

  • Access to reliable transportation

Expectations

  • Distribute 6 invitations to those you believe would be interested in participating in this event

  • Attend the event on December 7 (from 5:30-7:45 PM. Training will be provided at 5:30 and event begins at 6:00)

  • Share summary of your table’s discussion with Wilder staff/volunteers
