Volunteer Interviewers Needed
Interested in supporting Guiding Eyes and learning about the impact that guide dogs have on people who are blind and visually impaired ?
Guiding Eyes for the Blind has a need for volunteer interviewers to assist us with a longitudinal study - The Personal and Economic Benefits of a Guide Dog - by interviewing graduates of our school
The volunteer interviewer is provided with a pre-selected list of graduates willing to participate in our survey and interviews the participant by phone. He/she asks questions and enters the answers online for the person who is blind - the interviewee. The survey questions are provided on a Survey Monkey tool.
Interviewees have been alerted to our intent to gather longitudinal data. Many already participated in a 2011 Survey, very similar to the Longitudinal Survey in questions asked and duration. Most likely, two calls will be made; the first call to the graduate is to set up a time/day for the interview; then, a follow up call made according to the arranged time. The Survey is expected to take 30-40 minutes. Some graduates prefer weekends or evenings for the survey call, if they work full time or attend school.
Volunteer Interviewers should have a pleasant and well understood speaking/telephone voice; a positive attitude; excellent communication skills; some basic computer skills; must enjoy speaking with people; and those with past phone experience are encouraged to apply.
This is a virtual volunteer opportunity which can be performed in your own home or workplace and at mutually convenient time for interviewer/interviewee. Feel free to circulate this volunteer opportunity along to anyone you think may be interested.

Description
Since 1954, Guiding Eyes has managed to thrive on goodness, even in the most difficult of times. We relied on the goodness of our loyal base of generous supporters, passionate staff and dedicated volunteers to come together to meet the growing needs of our diverse community of people with vision loss. Through this unwavering support and dedication, Guiding Eyes has graduated more than 10,000 guide dog teams. We believe in the powerful, meaningful change that our beautiful dogs bring to the lives of people facing the daily challenges that blindness and vision loss present.
It can cost up to $50,000 annually to train and care for a guide dog throughout its working lifetime with a person who is blind. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we provide all services completely free of charge to people who are blind or with vision loss.
