VST - Mapping

Destiny Search Project "Virtual Support Team (VST)" will be a group of on-call volunteers from around the country that are ready to activate when a search is started. The VST will help support the on-site operations.

We are looking for those that are dedicated, willing to help, and have at least some general experience in mapping. We will provide training for the role you will be assisting with and all of the tools or services we use are available free.

The mapping team will be using online tools and our Destiny Search Project Operations System to create, and assign maps for deployment by search teams.

Team members would possibly be mapping at any time day or night as we would likely be preparing maps overnight before a larger search operation. Some mapping team members would be working during the search to assist the on-site staff with various map needs throughout the operations.

Mission Statement

"You're never so lost that angels can't find you" Our mission is to empower families and communities to use spontaneous volunteers for a missing person search.

Description

The Destiny Search Project provides services to families, law enforcement, and other groups engaged in a search for a missing person. The extent of the services we provide provided are determined case by case basis, but may include: Volunteer Based Search Operations, Law Enforcement Support, Resource/Logistics Management, Public Information/Affairs, Social Media Management, and Family Support Services Our organization formed in 2007 after the disappearance of Destiny Norton in Salt Lake City, Utah. The group was incorporated as a nonprofit and received their IRS 501(c)3 tax exempt designation in 2008. Operation in Utah included searches for Camille Cleverley, Hser Ner Moo, Susan Powell, and others. During this time, we received invaluable advice and assistance from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Their guidance and assistance helped streamline and strengthen our model of operations. In 2011, the organization relocated to Oregon. Building on our experience in Utah, we began developing a model that could be quickly set up and activated virtually anywhere. Seeking to leverage the simplicity and availability of the internet, we developed a system that would take advantage of cloud-based internet applications. Today, the vision of making the Destiny Search system available nationally is a reality. Finally, anyone anywhere can launch a community-based volunteer search in a matter of only a few hours.
