Western Youth Services

Did you know that less than 50% of the children with mental health conditions receive the services they need? Western Youth Services is changing that. Jump Start for Kids (JS4K), one of our school-based programs, brings mental health services strategies to the school setting in a collaborative partnership. We work with the schools as change agents that break the cycle of repetitive behavior problems and the revolving door to the principal’s office. We work within the school’s budget to determine the most cost-effective way to provide services that eliminate barriers to learning, improve learning environments, increase classroom teaching time and enable every child to reach their potential.

Position: JS4K Dance Volunteer

Date/Time: Tuesdays 2:00-3:30pm

Where: 504 E South St., Anaheim, CA 92805.

Duties: Volunteers will assist the Behavioral Health Aide staff member in conducting dance lessons and will help count for students, start music and make sure they are doing the right steps.

Gain experience in the field of mental health while making a difference. Break the stigma, be the change!

Description

Western Youth Services (WYS), founded in 1972, is a community-based non-profit agency that provides prevention and mental health treatment services for troubled youth and their families. WYS programs include children's mental health clinics throughout Orange County; services in Family Resource Centers in Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, Westminster and Huntington Beach; and counseling and crisis intervention services for the Orangewood Children's Home, a facility that cares for abused and neglected children. In public-private partnership with the Orange County Health Care Agency and local School Districts, WYS also provides services on-site in public schools throughout the County. WYS employs nearly 200 staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, family counselors, and support personnel. It also serves as a training site for clinical interns. A volunteer Board of Directors comprised of professionals from business, human services, health care, and education governs the agency.
