Help adult immigrants learn English at Aquinas Literacy Center! By volunteering as an English Literacy Tutor for just 90 minutes per week (plus 30 minutes of lesson planning and paperwork), you can empower an adult learner to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Tutoring is scheduled at your convenience during regular Center hours (Monday/Tuesday 9am-4:30pm and Wednesday/Thursday 9am-8pm). No weekend tutoring. All tutoring occurs in-person at our Center, located at 1751 West 35th Street in Chicago. Prospective t utors must be native or near native English speakers. Knowledge of another language is not required; all tutoring is in English.

Your first step to becoming a Volunteer English Tutor is to attend a one-hour observation of a current tutoring pair. After you complete your observation hour, will be asked to complete a registration form, pay a one-time $25 workshop fee that helps cover the cost of books and materials, and sign up for a Tutor Training Workshop on one of the following Saturdays:

October 19, January 25, March 22, or May 31 from 9am-3pm

After completing the training workshop, you will schedule your three hours of observation during regular Center hours and complete homework and paperwork. Once you begin tutoring, you will receive a certificate and a 6-month subscription from ProLiteracy.

Contact us for registration information today! Email the Associate Director at sabrina@aquinasliteracycenter.org or call (773) 927-0512.
