ORGANIZATION: Super Stars Literacy

Working in collaboration with schools and families in under-resourced communities, Super Stars Literacy empowers children to transform their future by providing intensive,
individualized programming that develops foundational reading and social-emotional skills. We're looking for a volunteer to visit our program sites and attend our events to take compelling and engaging photos of our program that can be used in marketing and outreach materials. The volunteer will be responsible for sorting and editing the photos, and also for reviewing old photo files, selecting the best photos to keep, and creating an updated photo filing system for staff to use. This is a great opportunity to practice your photography skills, learn about marketing and communications strategies, and help an organization tell its story through pictures. Except for the site and event photography, all related duties can be done remotely on a flexible schedule.

Mission Statement

When a child learns to read, they are empowered to transform their future.

Description

Because 3rd grade reading ability is such a strong predictor of high school graduation rates, Super Stars Literacy partners with schools in low-income communities to provide at-risk K-2nd grade students with comprehensive literacy intervention programming, helping them build the literacy and social skills that are the foundation for future learning. The SSL program consists of 1) daily after-school literacy and social-emotional skill developmet, 2) in-school reading support coordinated with the students' school-day teachers, and 3) family engagement activities designed to help parents support their child's reading development and connect families to the school.

We schedule one-time, team-building group volunteering activities as well! Please reach out to volunteer@superstarsliteracy.org for more information!
