ORGANIZATION: Gigi's Playhouse Cedar Rapids

We are looking for motivated and excited individuals or groups to lead the following programs at our Playhouse. If you have leader qualities and an interest in any of the below areas, we would love for you to join us.

Little Fingers, Big Plans

  • This program promotes the foundations of handwriting. It is primarily a handwriting group but it should also incorporate fine motor, sensory awareness, social interaction, and language skills.
  • Length of program: 45-60 minutes per week with 6 week sessions
  • OT or teacher prefered

Cooking Club

  • This program is geared toward building safety awareness in the kitchen and preparing healthy recipes that taste great. Recommended for teens and adults.
  • Length of program: 1½ to 2 hours, once per week in the evening

GiGi’s Playhouse is all about achievement, belief and confidence. Serving children and adults of all ages, Playhouses across the country offer 30 educational and therapeutic programs at no charge to families. All programs aim to maximize self-confidence and empower individuals to achieve their greatest potential. Our literacy program alone teaches thousands of kids with Down syndrome to read every year!

Description

Programs at GiGi’s Playhouse offer foundational learning opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community.

Goals for each GiGi’s Playhouse Program:
  • Create opportunities for parent networking and support to face the diagnosis
  • Instill high expectations for the child to follow program routines and to fully participate in planned activities
  • Offer programming tailored for individuals with Down syndrome, to include structured routines, purposeful activity planning and an (engaging/fun/creative) environment for learning
  • Provide specific, therapeutic or educational learning opportunities to support development of speech-language, social, and motor skills
