SEA benefits

Nominations are now open for Social Enterprise Alliance, San Francisco Bay Area Chapter's 2016-2017 board of directors.

The current board members and officers will be completing their terms of service at the end of 2016. We will be electing new directors and officers at our membership meeting this coming November from a slate of candidates recommended by the current board or proposed by the chapter's membership.

You are invited at this time to nominate a candidate for the board, or volunteer to serve yourself. Serving as a board member allows you to meet and network with other leaders across sectors and generations using business for advancing social justice, support Bay Area social enterprise practitioners and social entrepreneurs, and help to define and build the field of social enterprise.

Here are the requirements to serve as a board member or officer:

  1. Maintain or obtain an active membership in SEA and live or work in the S.F. Bay Area. (Membership in the chapter is automatically included in your SEA membership.)
  2. Be actively engaged in social enterprise as a practitioner, supporter, advisor, entrepreneur or currently-enrolled student.
  3. Contribute 4-6 hoursper month to chapter activities (8-10 hours for officers and committee chairs).
  4. Attend one board meeting per month (meetings are in person every 3rd month; others are via teleconference).
  5. Actively serve on one standing committee of the chapter (e.g. Program or Membership).
The skills we've selected in this posting are what we're looking to add to our team, but need not be represented by one Board Member. Rather, if you have at least one (say, fundraising) then that's fantastic!

Mission Statement

Our mission is to take a purposeful, inclusive, and innovative approach for convening leaders from all sectors, ages, and stages to benefit social enterprises, the communities they impact, and the social enterprise movement at large.

Description

The San Francisco Bay Area is an epicenter of innovation, entrepreneurship, and community engagement. SEA/SFBay was founded in 2009 to ignite a Bay Area social enterprise community that hosted the 2010 Social Enterprise World Forum in San Francisco. The SEWF was later celebrated in Johannesburg (2011), Rio de Janeiro (2012), and Canada (October, 2013).

The space of Social Enterprise expanded exponentially over the last few years in the Bay Area. An exciting community of impact investors, aligning money with meaning, gathers every year in Fort Mason. New social movements, media, and technology are causing and enabling tremendous shifts in legislation, the workplace, and the marketplace: our communities are awakening to the opportunity of an impact-driven economy.

Our commitment is to facilitate a participatory platform for collective impact, with a vision of a San Francisco Bay Area where everyone has the opportunity to invest, start, partner, work, and purchase from businesses that benefit communities.

We aim our efforts towards 3 focus areas for collaboration:

  1. Cross-sector: bridging sectorial and technological divides,
  2. Inter-generational: closing gaps between experienced and emerging practitioners,
  3. With local and state governments: mutually beneficial relationships between social enterprises and governments.
