Phone calls and interpretation services for Haitian clients

ORGANIZATION: JVS, Jewish Vocational Service

Seeking volunteers who are fluent in English and Haitian-Creole to make phone calls to Haitian clients who have lost food stamp benefits and to explain how JVS can help reinstate benefits. Volunteers will make appointments for clients to meet with a JVS career navigator, then the volunteer will assist with interpretation during the appointment. Appointments can be planned according to the volunteer's schedule.

Time commitment: Approximately 3-4hours per week, flexible schedule. JVS hours are M-F 9-5.

Program overview:
Career Path Now is a recently launched JVS initiative targeting a subset of food stamp recipients who are subject to a monthly work requirement to remain eligible for their monthly benefit. Working in partnership with the MA Department of Transitional Assistance, Career Path Now seeks to identify and enroll these clients into a program that will ensure that they retain their benefits in the short term while connecting them with the education and training that will put them on a path to a job and a career that enables them to achieve self-sufficiency.
