Watch Zoo Animals on Weekends

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: CuriOdyssey

Wildlife Watchers volunteer for one 1-hour shift each week for at least 6 months, observing animals on exhibit (such as otters and bobcats) for ongoing research on animal welfare, and then record data on their behavior using a simple program on a department provided iPad.

Animals include otters, bobcats, raccoons, fox, opossum, owl, and ravens.

This position provides valuable experience monitoring wildlife and exposure to animal welfare, conservation, and zoo careers. The data collected enables the keepers to identify behaviors, whether they be normal, seasonal, or unusual, to see if any changes should be made in their care

Requirements: Must be at least 16 years old (18 preferred), able to record data accurately, and have good interpersonal skills as you will be volunteering in public areas. Volunteer shifts available on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 5pm. You must be able to come in weekly for at least 6 months. Occasional absences can be made up by volunteering twice during the week before or after.

To apply, complete standard CuriOdyssey volunteer application, available on our website at www(dot)CuriOdyssey(dot)org, and note interest in the Wildlife Watcher position. Position will be open until filled.
