Summary of Internship

Join the Isabella Stewart Gardner team and learn about how social media is planned and implemented at a cultural institution! The Social Media intern will collaborate with the Digital Content Manager to promote the Museum, its events, and its exhibitions on social media. The intern will learn about the development and deployment of social media campaigns as well as methods for social media engagement with key Museum audiences. This internship will involve research into the social media and web analytics for the Museum and competing organizations, so an ability to work independently and with solid organizational skills is key.

Responsibilities

  • Draft post content for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Schedule content to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Monitor Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for engagement
  • Record social media and website analytics on an ongoing basis
  • Engage in cross-departmental brainstorming to develop a social media campaign
  • Complete competitive analysis of Museum social media

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to take ownership over projects and work proactively
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to learn
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Photography skills and working knowledge of Photoshop preferred

Educational Opportunities

Interns in this position will learn about social media strategy, methods, and implementation. Interns will not only be involved in day-to-day execution of social media posts, but will have the opportunity to plan and execute a social media campaign of their own design. Social media is a museum-wide initiative, and so the intern will have the chance to learn about many departments, as well as about the Museum's history and collection.
