We need volunteers to prepare and file federal income tax returns for low to moderate taxpayers with a special emphasis on those 60 and over. Volunteers can chose to work one day or four days per week in four hour sessions at the local libraries. All training and materials are provided free. We work in a group setting so there are always more experienced counselors available to assist. Counselors are always needed, especially those proficient in both English and Spanish.
Assistants are also needed to help organize client intake, make clients feel comfortable and ensure that they have the documentation needed.
There is also a need for Spanish / English speakers to act as interpreters.

To provide high quality free income tax assistance and tax form preparation to low- and middle- income taxpayers, with special attention to those age 60 and older.
Description
We have prepared and filed over 1200 returns for each of the last three years. We are members of AARP Tax Aide although counselors do not have to be members of AARP. All tax law and software training, tax publications, and background checks are provided free of charge. Counselors are asked to work one or two days a week in four hour sessions from February 1 to April 15.
AARP Tax-Aide is administered through the AARP Foundation in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service. The AARP Foundation is an affiliated, 501(c ) (3) nonpartisan charitable organization, established in 1961.
