This is an entirely unique and rare opportunity to visit closed-to-the-public Hopper Mountain, home of the Condor Recovery program. We'll be visiting and staying over at the newly-built field headquarters while helping to recover an important wetland area that's been inundated with cattails.
We will be working with hand tools to reduce the density and overpopulation of cattails, while conserving portions of the habitat and native ecosystem for restoration opportunities coming with winter or spring rains.
There's not a lot of hiking on this trip, just driving in on possibly rough roads to the headquarters. (Ride shares available if needed). The brand new facility will host us with showers, kitchen, sofas and beds, though you are also welcome to sleep under the stars if that be your modus operandi.
We'll enjoy a community feast and an excursion opportunity Sunday morning, hiking in one of the most secluded areas in the heart of the Sespe Wilderness. We'll be out early Sunday afternoon.

Mission Statement
Habitat Works is a volunteer environmental stewardship organization, improving wildlife habitat in Southern California's forests, wildlife refuges, state parks and private preserves.
Description
Habitat Works hosts single-day habitat restoration projects, weekend campouts and backpacking trips in Southern California's precious National Forests, private preserves and State and National Parks. Volunteers learn about our own local ecology, native flora and fauna and the challenges they face, and have the hands-on opportunity to improve conditions in Southern California wildlife habitat. Spend time in nature while making a difference - caring for our natural environment. We look forward to meeting and working with you soon!
