ORGANIZATION: CHICKTECH

ChickTech is a multi-generational community supporting women and girls to become technology creators.

We are dedicated to retaining women in the technology workforce and increasing the number of women and girls pursuing technology-based careers. We facilitate hands-on technology-centric events to empower, support, and increase the confidence of women and girls. Through our events, ChickTech builds community, empowers participants to see themselves as leaders, and provides networking and mentoring opportunities in the rapidly growing high tech industry. Our largest program is the High School program -- during which 100 girls are invited to spend a weekend working on tech projects and building community. Our Kickoff event is scheduled for February 2017.

We are looking for a Event/Logistics Manager . This volunteer position is a key role in executing our High School Kickoff event in February. This role would coordinate with High School liaisons to ensure that we have a cohort of girls for our program, as well as, coordinate with corporate or university partners to ensure the venue, food, and supplies are ready for the big event. You will work closely with the Workshop Lead/HS Program Co-Lead in engaging with and coordinating volunteers for the event. You should feel comfortable delegating to less experienced volunteers as well as the ChickTech Boston Leadership Team to ensure that all the right resources are lined up for a successful and fun weekend!

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Very strong organizational and time management skills; comfort with managing complex and overlapping tasks and extreme comfort delegating

  • Excellent problem solving skills, ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Good strategic and tactical thinking

  • The ability to work in a collaborative style and move others to action by planning, motivating and organizing work tasks

  • Excellent interpersonal skills that establish and maintain credibility and relationships

  • Experience in event management and project management; experience in free project management software (like Trello) a plus!

  • An interest in ChickTech’s mission

  • Experience with volunteer organizations or volunteer managed a plus!

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the High School program workplan and task management

  • Engage with high school liaisons to ensure we have positive relationships for nomination of girls; coordinate high school registration and acceptance process

  • In coordination with Leadership Team, develop and maintain relationships with corporate and university sponsors to ensure the resources to support the kickoff event are available

  • In coordination with the Workshop Lead (HS Program Co-Lead), coordinate and engage volunteers to support tasks leading up to and during the event

  • Manage resources like food, A/V, transportation, venue, and supplies to ensure a successful event

  • Manage day-of event logistics

  • Thoroughly document the event planning and logistics process so we can repeat successes and avoid failures in the future

  • Delegate tasks to other volunteers, check-in on deadlines and outstanding tasks, and identify when timelines are slipping or volunteers need additional support to complete their tasks

Expected time commitment: 5-10 hours/week. During the lead up to the Kickoff event and that weekend itself, please expect more commitment.

We ask that all leadership team members commit to one year of being on the team if possible, although less can be negotiated! Please be honest about your time commitments, while we realize it is difficult to forecast what you may be doing four or five months out, we ask potential leadership team members to try their best to upfront with any conflicts, either work or personal. Thank you for your understanding!
