Caring Hands needs volunteers to provide friendly visits, companionship, social outings or transportation to appointments, assistance with shopping and errands for a frail or isolated senior in Central, South, or East Contra Costa County. Volunteers may provide respite care to give a family member a break, read mail and write letters, or plan an outing at a museum or park.
One-on-one matches are the greatest need, but substitute driver volunteers are also welcomed. Our ideal volunteer can spare time on a weekday. Volunteers may choose what geographical area(s) within the county they'd prefer to visit. The program is flexible to fit with a volunteer's schedule. Match volunteers usually contribute 1-3 hours a week, and there is no minimum for those who will give occasional rides.

Mission Statement
Caring Hands helps create one-on-one matches between caring volunteers and seniors over 60 in need, enabling them to stay in their own homes and remain independent as long as safely possible by providing free non-medical in-home assistance, friendship, and transportation.
Description
Caring Hands Volunteer Caregivers Program started in 1998 as a collaboration between John Muir Health, social service agencies, congregations of various religious faiths and the community-at-large. Seniors in Central, South or East Contra Costa County who may otherwise feel lonely and isolated receive support and companionship from caring volunteers, enriching the lives of both. Services are provided regardless of income, gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
Training and supervision for every volunteer is provided after acceptance into the program, and seniors and volunteers receive ongoing support and case management from Licensed Clinical Social Workers.
