Volunteer tutors with Inspiring Minds are needed to help students grade K through 5 attain proficiency in literacy and math. Volunteers visit classrooms once a week minimum for an hour and work with a group of students with similar skill deficiencies.

Teachers identify students who are in need of attention or focus and assign them to our tutors. Teachers then provide activities to volunteer tutors that students practice each week.

About Inspiring Minds

Location:

65 Pavilion Avenue, Providence, RI 02905, US

Mission Statement

Inspiring Minds empowers students to succeed and thrive in school and life by developing trusted relationships with community members who are knowledgeable of the culturally responsive, academic, and socio-emotional needs necessary for student success.

Description

Inspiring Minds is an antiracist organization committed to closing equity gaps based on race, ethnicity, first language, and economic status that impact RI students and families. The organization was founded as Lippitt Hill Tutorial in1963 to provide academic support for children in two segregated elementary schools. Since then, the organization has grown into a citywide service and, in 1988, became Volunteers in Providence Schools to reflect its citywide approach to addressing academic inequities. Finally, the name Inspiring Minds was adopted in 2008 as the programs and scope of work expanded beyond Providence City's borders. Join us as we aim for programming in schools across the state!
