Summary
SKIL Intern will provide volunteer services and assist staff with referrals from Oklahoma City, Putnam City and surrounding charter schools to youth living independently from their parents or legal guardian who have been referred by community agencies, school administration or public schools.
Benefit to Student
Students will gain increase knowledge and insight into the social services field, specifically services to the homeless population in Oklahoma. This position is unpaid, but is available for college credit.
Essential duties, Responsibilities and Expectations
- Familiarize yourself with YSOC procedures and policies
- Supporting SKIL Staff in organizing YSOC events
- Learn about resources in the community that are beneficial to unaccompanied students
- Assist SKIL staff with client caseload
- Assist SKIL staff with delivery of "basic need" items to students
- Help develop and implement activities for the Teen Service Board
- The ability to interact with a diverse population
- Ability to deal with crisis
- Participate in essential program and community meetings
- Provide support for all program needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 21 years of age
- Degree seeking students, preferrable in the social service field and with Senior or Masters-level standing
- The ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Transportation with a current driver’s license and valid insurance
- Commitment to Youth Services for Oklahoma County’s mission, values and goals
- Proficiency in Microsoft excel and word
