The Organization:

PeaceGeeks is a global non-profit, volunteer organization that uses technology to build the technological, communications and management capacities of grassroots organizations who work to promote peace, accountability and human rights. We develop partnerships with these organizations to provide meaningful support designed to increase their skills, effectiveness and impact. We see a world where everyone can leverage technology to make peace and human rights a lived reality. With offices in Vancouver, Ottawa and Halifax, PeaceGeeks works remotely by providing tools and training to local organizations on the ground to support them in affecting change in their own communities.

Position Overview:

The Fundraising Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to create a vision and strategy for fundraising and donor development. This will include managing our annual giving campaign, cultivating individual donors, researching corporate sponsors, overseeing grant writing and providing direction to our fundraising volunteers. The Fundraising Coordinator will also work to develop and to nurture corporate and community relationships for the purposes of fundraising, creating partnerships and elevating the profile of PeaceGeeks - especially within the local tech industry. The ideal candidate will be an independent self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to apply his or her skills in all aspects of general fundraising. Most importantly, they will bring with them a passion for working on important, contemporary issues affecting people around the world. The Fundraising Coordinator will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing annual giving and ensuring that all donations are up-to-date in our CRM (Salesforce)
  • Extensive research on potential corporate partners and developing sponsorship proposals
  • Cultivating and stewarding high-net worth donors
  • Assisting the Executive Director with fund development initiatives
  • Overseeing the Grant writing team’s research, writing and submission of proposals to government, corporations, foundations and private granting agencies
  • Coordinating PeaceGeeks' outreach efforts with the Marketing department
  • Providing direction and guidance to all fundraising volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Minimum an undergraduate degree or diploma in fundraising, communications, public relations, business administration or other relevant field is required
  • Membership in AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) preferred
  • At least 2-3 years' progressive leadership experience in fundraising
  • Successful development department planning, monitoring and budget management experience
  • Demonstrated success in individual giving program development and leadership, with a proven track record of soliciting and closing gifts of $10,000+. International fundraising experience is a definite asset
  • Sound knowledge of international development tools, policies, practices and debates; solid knowledge of the context of sustainability-related work in Canada
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills; good judgment and discretion in dealing with confidential matters
  • Highly collaborative working style and relationship-building abilities
  • Ability to lead others and to positively influence individuals and outcomes
  • Superb written and spoken English language skills required. French language skill is an asset
  • Demonstrated strengths in leading teams of volunteers that are aligned, engaged, professional and successful
  • Computer literacy including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn other systems
  • Position requires the ability to deliver planned and ad hoc requests within short notice
  • Familiar with applying best practices to maintaining effective fundraising tools and applications, preferably experienced with Salesforce

Working Relationships and Environment
PeaceGeeks is an innovative organization whose staff and volunteers are culturally diverse and enthusiastic. This position will work closely with, and report to, the Executive Director of PeaceGeeks. This role will be full-time (40 hours/week) on a 6-month contract with a flexible schedule and the option of working from home. Our office is located in a community-oriented, brightly lit office space, close to transit in Gastown (downtown Vancouver).

Compensation:

Salary is dependent on experience. The annual salary range is $35,000 - $40,000 for a 6-month contract.
