Title: CGC Certified Evaluator/Dog Trainer
Reports To: Executive Director

Compensation: pay commensurate with experience and credentials

Position Summary:
Pets Loyal 2 Vets seeks an experienced part time CGC Evaluator tester/dog trainer who possesses or can soon possess a Therapy Dogs International or Assistance Dogs International Certification, or a CCPDT certification. We seek a fun outgoing trainer who enjoys dogs, communicates exceptionally well, is patient, knowledgable and realizes the importance of supporting Minnesota veterans diagnosed with PTSD and TBI injuries. As a prerequisite to acceptance, you must above all believe in and promote PL2V’s objectives and mission. If you feel you have the skills and experience we are looking for, and are a CGC evaluator tester or CCPDT certified, please contact us right away. If you are serious about training dogs for Minnesota veterans and live within 20 miles of our training facility, we want to hear from you.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide overall leadership, support and direction for the care and maintenance of all PL2V candidate dogs. Attend at least 6 monthly Board meetings in a calendar year. Provide input into the number of dogs trained and veterans served to meet the deliverables and mission goals.

2. Develop and implement PL2V’s animal training manual in accordance with PL2V’s defined training plans and objectives, ADI specifications and with guidance from PL2V’s Executive Board. Adhere to the training manual throughout the training process to ensure delivery of high-quality dogs. Ensure all elements of animal care are consistent with the overall training program, and all personnel interacting with the dogs under your guidance and direction.

3. Develop and maintain the records, logs, forms and processes necessary to implement the program and comply with PL2V standards.

4. Promote PL2V’s mission and objectives, and especially the training program, both internally and externally. Attend PL2V events in support of the organization and reflect PL2V’s mission, values and objectives in all interactions.

5. Assist the organization, as required and/or directed by PL2V’s Executive Director, in identifying, screening and sourcing appropriate candidate dogs for all PL2V programs. Further define and qualify specific dogs for the different levels of veteran care required (Battle Buddy, Companion, Therapy & Service). Work with subordinate foster trainers under your guidance as well as foster care volunteers to instruct them per PL2V training guidelines.

6. Attend special events, photo shoots, fundraising events, media and public relations events, annual banquets and other events as required.

Education and Experience:
1. 2 year degree or higher in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Technician and/or service dog training with an emphasis on PTSD therapy dogs prefered
2. 3+ solid years of high level dog training experience with an emphasis on PTSD service dogs
3. Certifications: CGC Evaluator Certified at a minimum. CCPDT certified, TDI or ADI or certifications considered.
4. Physical requirements: Able to physically handle training schedules and related administrative paperwork

Pets Loyal 2 Vets is looking for an outgoing, trustworthy, capable trainer with excellent communication skills that knows how to direct the training program and keep accurate paperwork..

Some organizations and people may feel using un-certified trainers is sufficient simply because they have been training for many years, but ask yourself, would you allow an unlicensed medical practitioner to practice medicine on your family? We at PL2V feel strongly that using trained professionals is the cornerstone to our programs and mission. If you are not a CGC certified evaluator at minimum, please only apply when you have acquired this certification. We prefer TDI or ADI certified individuals or CCPDT as well.
