  • 4 people are interested

Eyes Wide Open Mentoring (EWOM) is an Anacostia-based nonprofit organization that pairs adult mentors to work one-on-one with homeless, middle school-aged children living in D.C. Our mission is to empower our young people to succeed despite the challenges posed by homelessness.

EWOM is looking for a volunteer to assist with its communications operations.

We would like someone who is familiar with local media (online, radio, TV, and print, including media who are East of the River) and is willing to forge partnerships with influential members of the media to spread our message.

This volunteer would be expected to contribute ideas for our quarterly newsletter, conduct interviews, help prepare written informational products, write short articles on topics of interest to our followers, and many other interesting tasks that can be catered to the interest of the volunteer.

If someone is able to film and produce short videos for our website that would be helpful as well. Our website is, www.ewomentoring.org.

The hours per week/month will vary. Most work can be done from home.

Come volunteer your time to help a great group of homeless youth!

Mission Statement

The mission of Eyes Wide Open Mentoring is to empower homeless youth to rise above their immediate circumstances and take the steps necessary to enable them to have successful futures.

Description

Eyes Wide Open Mentoring pairs trained volunteer mentors to work one-on-one with homeless students enrolled in participating D.C. public schools to address the challenges associated with homelessness. Mentors help youth develop a realistic plan to cope with and overcome adversity. In addition to addressing the tough social-emotional issues that are associated with homelessness, students also have opportunities to participate in various fun and educational activities.
