ORGANIZATION: NAFE US

Amaru, Peru
This is Victor. He is the father of the man who has opened his home to our after-school program, as well as our volunteers.

Right now, NAFE US needs a project coordinator to start a new project in the highlands of Peru. Volunteer coordinator(s) will have financial and emotional support from us and physical/developmental support from the family they will be staying with. This volunteer needs to be bilingual in English and Spanish; independent and ready for a life-changing, adventurous and highly rewarding experience. This is a definite resume booster and a chance to be the person who develops a project that will change the lifes of a community forever.

The project is located in Amaru, which is a little more than an hour outside of Cusco, near a town called Pisaq (you can find Pisaq on the map). It is a small farming community that is looking for us to come teach the children English, opening a world of opportunities for the children as they grow up.

A local family has opened their home to us to host our after-school program, as well as house the project coordinator. Their home is authentic and clean and the man of the house is a professional chef, so the food is delicious.

We have set it up that the program run Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school and will be focused on teaching English using fresh, innovative methods and activities to help the children learn on a practical level, while having fun. The program runs three days a week allowing long-term volunteers to travel the other days. Since the location is remote and has spotty signal, it would be essential that volunteers had time to go to the city regularly. Pisaq is 15 minutes away and Cusco is 90 minutes.

About NAFE US

Location:

1382 W 1700 S, Cedar City, UT 84720, US

Mission Statement

NAFE-US aims to provide support, health, education and self-sustainability to youth around the world, while offering our volunteers intercultural and educational opportunities to serve youth today and gain a broader world perspective. This aids in developing a lifelong appreciation for humanitarian service and allows young people to experience mentoring, positivity, safety and respect. We value the rich diversity of cultures, traditions, socio-economic status, and life-styles. Our projects will build on respect for the youth, local customs, social-norms, cultures and traditions.

Description

NAFE-US provides forgotten, under-educated and poverty stricken children with educational opportunities, starting with sometimes building the school itself, as well as the guidance to develop skills and tools to reach their potential, contribute positively to society, and to become self-sufficient. Our projects focus on language development as well as physical fitness, critical thinking and life skills. For these children, thinking outside the box means understanding that they do not have to be subjected to the same life their parents and grandparents have had. We open the eyes of children reared in poverty or with limited resources to the possibilities they can have outside of their everyday environment. We give them the skills so that they understand that they can DO anything, BE whatever they want, and believe in their future.

We hope to give all the children in our projects a solid sense of self, through education and nurturing, leading them to thrive with their own independence and strength.
